Good college textbook with insights into sociology and its definitions, living examples

A good textbook on sociology provides various perspectives on the same issue, rather than making judgments for the reader. This book does that. It is filled with interesting photos, examples, illustrations and charts. I particularly was attracted to the section on politics and religion, giving accurate and insightful definitions of terms such as nationalism, as well as various structures of government.
In the religion section, it quotes and explains Marx's well-known quote of religion as the opium of the people, as well as Weber's counter-quote that religion is a force for social change, rather than a system to pacify the people.
Additionally, it provides insight into terminology used to classify or label various religious entities, including church, sect, denominations and cults. A church is an established religious organization with strong ties to the larger secular society. A sect rejects the religious beliefs or practices of established churches and usually is formed when a small group splits off to form a rival organization. A denomination maintains good terms with the religious institution from which it developed, but it competes with other similar denominations for members.
