Gwen and Garrick

My newest love is the writing of Virna DePaul! Messing around on Facebook I noticed Virna DePaul asking for volunteers to read and review her latest. Not knowing anything about the book I immediately sent my email. Usually books about celebrity type characters turns me off because I assume it's the usual storyline - drug abuse, promiscuity, cheating. This is so not the case and found it to be a wonderful display of love in the world of Hollywood. The first chapter is the typical Hollywood scene, sex and booze, as that's how Garrick has come to live his life. After meeting his cast mates one stands out immediately, Gwen. Their relationship is passionate and yet, because of who they are, can't become public. They both come from difficult backgrounds which had come to affect decisions about their future. The issues in this book are real everyday life concerns, Hollywood or not, and DePaul did a fabulous job twisting them into the storyline. This is the first book in a new series, about 7 or 8 books, each is a standalone but would probably flow better if read in order. My copy was given for my honest review.

In the end I was glad that I finished the book and saw the outcome ...

Say it Sexy was a pleasant read. The story was well written but not as gripping as I had expected. The characters became more relatable as the story went along. It did take me a few starts and stops to be able to really get into this story. In the end I was glad that I finished the book and saw the outcome of Gwen and Garrick’s story. Gwen came off as uptight and judgmental at first. However, as the story line progressed she became more relatable as she loosened up within the story. Garrick was a more interesting character from the start though I did find it hard to sympathize with him regarding the way that he treated women. As the story progressed and I learned about his past, his ex and who she cheated on him with I started to understand him better. I did enjoy the play between Gwen and Garrick as their relationship grew. The passion between and Gwen and Garrick was the most tangible portion of the book to me. However, I generally liked the support characters better. I liked the co-stars on the TV show and Gwen’s parents’ revelation was the biggest plot twist in the book for me. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hollywood bad-boy meets celebrity sweetheart!

I really liked this book. Although the characters were some what young and you don't expect this kind of maturity from 21-23 year olds, it fit the story line of them as actors playing college students. I loved the way bad-boy Garrick Maze was portrayed and how he handled being in the lime light once he realized his feelings for Gwen. Gwen comes from a family of 3 and as an only child her father has doted on her but also controlled almost every aspect of her life. His temper can be so bad he scares her into doing whatever he wants. And now she is expected to be the perfect young lady, with a pristine image while working/acting on this new young adult series. But the heart and body want what they want and they crave the flirty and sexy as sin Garrick. But secrets from the past will interfere with the budding romance and when Gwen's father finds out sparks are flying between the two he will stand at nothing to destroy them.
End of the book surprises will catch you off guard - but I thought they were a little bizarre myself. I'm still giving this book 5 stars because over all I really enjoyed it.
