About the Author

Heike Schweitzer holds the chair for private law, European economic law and competition law at the University of Mannheim and is director of the Leibniz Science Campus "Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation" (MaCCI). Before joining the Mannheim law faculty, she held the chair for competition law at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). Her research focus lies in the area of competition law, including competition and regulation of liberalised industries, state aid law and public procurement law.

Kai H�schelrath is head of the Research Group "Competition and Regulation" at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim and coordinator of the Leibniz Science Campus "Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation" (MaCCI). Since April 2009 he is Assistant Professor of Industrial Organization and Competitive Strategy at the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar.

Beautiful designs; if you are PLUS, this is not generous sizing. See comments: designer is very responsive.

Beautiful crochet designs with a good deal of variation throughout the whole book. Very disappointing however that the sizes stop at XL, OR 2X, inconsistently, with variation of several inches within in those sizes -- not even consistent bust sizes. I am hoping I can make adjustments because I am plus, AND I hate tight clothing. If multiples were given for the patterns, I could size up to get the fit I prefer, but I do not see that information being given. If you want that, The Crochet Crowd has videos on You Tube to help with figuring out multiples using diagrams, so I will consult that to get the sizes I want. I find this lack of information & upsizing confounding at this time, when other designers are providing multiples, and sizing as high as 5X, and the bust sizing within a specified size is always consistent; not variable as these. Also: we are in an age of accepting women of all sizes & shapes....soooo, I would think a modern designer would recognize what competitors are doing & the current social milieu. I will keep the book because it is amazing and I will learn from it; but curiously, it is not convenient for women who want looser clothing OR for women who need bigger sizes and want to make beautiful crochet apparel. UPDATE 9.29.16: I upgraded this product one star because the designer was respectful, polite & so prompt in offering me assistance, and where to contact her on Ravelry. She also has a website with a contact email.

An essential book for making top-down sweaters

Dora Ohrenstein has done it again! She's given us another book that takes an area of crochet from basics techniques to new possibilities. If you have tried top-down adult garments and have been disappointed in the look or fit, this book walks you through the steps to achieve a great sweater that you will be proud to wear.

Special attention is paid to how yarn selection affects drape and fit and how how to adjust patterns to fit your shape. The patterns in the book are shown on women with varying body shapes and include a wide range of sizes to accommodate real women. The yarns used for sweaters shown in the book include some fibers that are moderately prices (including as least one available in big box stores) as well as luxury yarns, with suggestions for alternatives base on fiber content and texture.

Dora has written clear explanations of how the two types of top down garments achieve their shaping and devotes a chapter to making the sweater fit. The pattern instructions themselves are clearly written and include useful reference point to guide the way.

If you are new to Dora's books and designs, this book will introduce you to her well thought out designs for real people along with her clear pattern instruction for achieving your own well-fitting sweater. If you are already a fan of her books and patterns, this book will be a necessary addition to your crochet library

A MUST-HAVE FOR CREATING BEAUTIFUL TOP-DOWN CROCHETED SWEATERS IN A VARIETY OF STYLES AND SIZES WITH EASE!

This is a must have crochet sweater book of endless variety in the style of top-down work. Not only are we given choices of styles but we are also given a selection of sizes! It's like the old adage about giving a man a fish as opposed to teaching him to fish only in crochet. Dora doesn't give us only a few crochet patterns, she shows us new ways of thinking about crocheted sweaters to create endless selections! If you know Dora's work, you know she is an artist in her own right, eternally curious and passing her expertise along through her books. This one is a tour de force. It is carefully thought out and presented so as to give the maximum enjoyment, instruction and information to the crocheter. I am thrilled to have it as part of my needlework library. The patterns are not complicated, but they make you look like an expert and you'll feel like one too.

I was not impressed with this textbook despite its backing of the NAEYC. As an example, in one of the chapters it tells the reader to exhaust all discipline resources BEFORE involving the parents. This makes very little sense in the real world as often parents are aware of issues that may contribute to behavioral problems. Notifying the parents last also serves to alienate the parents rather than involve them in the educational process. This is just one example of many contained in the text that are too easy to misinterpret or too poorly written to serve as valuable. We used this text for a child guidance class at a university just one quarter before tossing it out.

a beginners book

the book isn't bad for a first book into education. it gives you insight to a lot of general situations you will encounter and need to prepare for.

however, it doesn't tell you how to deal with bad or mis behavior. it basically says that all bad behavior is the teachers fault. in addition to the fact that children mis behave when they aren't fed/sleeping at night/safe, etc. i can understand that it's teaching a future teacher to handle everything independently, and that everything is in the teachers control... but... it's not. it's too idealistic in my opinion. the fact is that some students are out of a teachers control, not all administration in a school actually helps (some do the opposite), and then it says to contact all these professionals before the parents. nuts. in my opinion, teachers should try to help all children, but realize that there are some that slip through the cracks. it's also not always useful to talk to administration. they can make life more difficult or shoot you down for even considering helping the kids. additionally, contacting a professional prior to the parent and/or administration can lead to teacher problems.

I loved Gale Alvarez's book! It is overflowing with an abundance of love. It touched my heart and soul in numerous ways and strengthened my personal relationship with God.
This beautiful book is for everyone. This is not a book that you read only once and then place on a shelf, forgotten.
It is about real life and experiences that one can relate to. You will find yourself, as I do, reaching for it time and time again. I find myself reading and re-reading passages that are meaningful to me.

Overall the best book about SEO for anyone, not just beginners!

I checked out this book at the request of a client of mine. I do SEO for a living in hyper competitive industries online and have been doing so for about 10 years. I am not a beginner by a long shot. I have also purchased lots of other books on SEO from people like Aaron Wall, and Brad Callen, Stomper Net, and just about every other so called experts out there. I learned a lot from those people but I really wish there had been a simpler method of learning at the beginning of my SEO career. "The Comic Guide to Search Engine Optimization" is a blessing for newbies and experts alike.

This book takes a really fun approach to a somewhat boring or dry topic of SEO. It gets the topics covered with a lot of straight forward information and with enough humorous graphics that the topics and explanations of how SEO works are very easily remembered. I found myself laughing out loud on numerous occasions and then pondering the meaning of things I had read, then realized, I had actually learned a little something new in the process. NICE!!!!

I don't know the author, but I have to say that his knowledge and understanding of SEO is second to none and I would say with confidence that he should be considered a leading expert on the subject. There are lots of experts out there, and I consider myself to be better at SEO than most self proclaimed experts. Having said that, Amit Bhawnani has certainly raised the bar with this humorous method of teaching SEO

Feels like an ad stunt

This book felt like a rip off to me. While I am a beginer to SEO the stuff they talk about are basic to anyone who ever search online let alone played with Google Adwords here and there like I have been. At times it felt like the book was more a marketing tool for the author's own website. They gave just enough information for you to want ot hire them. Spelling, there were so many of them that I wonder about the high ratings that they have. I do not recommend this book.

They will withstand changes to Google's algorithm because the Comic Guide focuses on tried and true best practices, not sneaky gimmicks.
