Just the book I was looking for! This book took a lot of what I learned in four years of college, and put it into 21 concise chapters. The perfect review for anyone with a fitness background, or a great guide for anyone looking to get started in the field. Scientific information in an easy to comprehend text.

Knowledge is Power, this book is the -POWER - I was looking for!

This book is very straight forward and easy to understand. I used this book as an adjunct to a completely different Text Book for my Personal Trainer Certification course. The text book at times had been difficult to follow. However, I purchased this book and it helped me to bridge the gap between some of the concepts that I needed help with, as I was studying on my own. I am new to the Fitness Industry and I wanted to really "get the idea" on how to design a Program for clients. This book does exactly what it says it does: Creates a Bridge between Theory into Application. You can learn the concepts and guidelines, but bridging these components into application was difficult and vague for me. I need to know the "how to's" and the "how come" behind the answers. If you are discerning and have to understand the mechanics behind the answer, this book is what you need. I am a self taught person. I have a drive to teach myself what I can from books. And if material is not very well presented, I will find the resource that helps me. This book is the resource that was my best study companion for my Personal Trainer Certification Exam.

I will put it this way, The Personal Trainer Text book "Talks -AT- You." Douglas Brooks: Program Design for Personal Trainers, book: "Speaks -TO- You." If you don't already know the concepts presented in this book, then congratulations for taking the initiative to enhance your working knowledge. This book is for you.

Since I am new to the Personal Fitness Trainer Industry, I am so grateful to the author for sharing his years of fruitful experience with us into presenting what works best. I was feeling a bit frustrated while I was studying for my Personal Trainer Certification course. I said, Okay. These are the guidelines... but "HOW DO YOU IMPLEMENT IT ALL?" I wanted to learn how "bridge theory into application." So, when I came across this book, I bought it. And then... everything had started to -come together-! I did absolutely great on my written exam. And I say, I owe a lot of my "working knowledge" and successful time taking my written exam to the author of this book. If you are like me, and want to really understand the mechanics behind the guidelines this is the resource for you.

There is a lot to learn being a Personal Trainer, especially if you are new... like me. I'll say this. I paid a bit more for this book than what I could later find it for. I paid $60 for this book being a USED BOOK. And the clencher was that on the inside of the book, written in pencil was the price: $1.50. Argh! I paid $60 for what someone paid less than $2.00 for. I thought about this. And I will say this, this book is worth every cent I paid for & is worth more than it's weight in gold. Knowledge is power. And this is the book that will give me the cutting edge I need in this industry to get to where I want to be & learn to deliver the effective programs I want to know how to do. And not by blind application & rote, but yeilded by thought provoking awareness and complete "know how" vigilence.

When I am done reading this book, you can be sure that I will buy his latest books. I am waiting for my Personal Trainer Certification exam results... but when you kicked butt on an exam: You Know It before you leave!

This is one of the very best books on exercise and fitness I have read. It takes the very latest scientific research in exercise physiology and makes it easy to read and easy to understand. You would be hard pressed to find a more useful resource for trainers, coaches, or anyone interested in the hows and whys of fitness.

Sue Kreitzman is an ingenious low-fat cookery writer and this book has some more fabulous ideas. I was disappointed however that unlike her "Lowfat Lifeplan", she did not include the calorie counts for each recipe. On the plus side, I was really intrigued to read her recipes including instant potato flakes and her quick pasta sauces are delicious. This is not a particularly attractive book to look at,(no colour pictures) but as usual Sue has created some extremely tasty and orignal low-fat dishes. Please give the calorie counts next time Sue, then we can enjoy your recipes with a smug smile on our faces!

Human Caring Science

This was a revised edition of the Theory of Human Caring by Jean Watson. It was an excellent review and had additional material regarding the theory as she developed it into a science of caring. I used this as one of my reference in a 10 page paper describing the theory of human caring. I was very interested in what she was now relating to this theory as she developed it in 1979 and revised it in 1985 and 2012. I used her theory for the basis of my thesis in the eighties for a MSN.

I received a brand new book quickly. I needed this text for theory & it was a good reference. It was pricey for such a short text but i needed it. I swear Watson must've been on a good one to write this book.

A long overdue reprieve for Strasberg

David Krasner has offered a collection of essays which have successfully answered my question, "why does everyone hate Method Acting?" I have often chalked it up to an unfair bias: Stella Adler spoke to Stanislavski, who did not appreciate Strasberg's approach to acting. So many acting instructors (Grotowski, Adler, Meisner) have adapted and moved beyond Stanislavski's (constantly changing) point of view in terms of how to act in a committed, truthful fashion, and yet Strasberg is regularly crucified in classrooms. As an acting teacher, I have tried to fight against this. It did not help when my department chair at one university I was teaching as an adjunct at had me use of Robert Barton's poorly researched "Acting On-Stage and Off" in my classroom. It was an uphill battle against an unfair bias (in print, no less, tipping the scales against my objections). When someone praises the "master" Stanislavski's work, we must ask "which phase of Stanislavski?," for the man changed his mind at every corner. Stanislavski was a man who experimented. Several members of The Group Theatre created their own interpretation of, added their own unique voice to, and created something out of Stanislavski's research from various points in his luminous career. Strasberg did not "misinterpret" Stanislavski. The Method is uniquely his own. Thank you, David Krasner and essayists for creating this long overdue book. I was worried I would have to write it!

There's hope for the "Methods" return!

This book is the first one I've purchased out of two dozen that actually talks about Stanislovsky's "Method" approach and it's return to American Cinema in the future. "Method" Acting almost died over the past couple of decades and yet it appears it's been resurrected. The true principles and techniques of the "method" have been narrowed down to only a selected few in that period of time. Used by the Contemporary Acting Approaches of today. Who add these few techniques to their own Method Acting approaches. Most of them are neither supported by experienced or educated teachers. Only those hoping to make a quick buck off the unassuming novice. Or get back the twenty people who disappeared after only attending one or two classes by adding these few techniques to an already failing attempt to teach something that is worth paying for. This book is fantastic in learning all about the "original" "Method". It's origin, past, rise and fall and it's future. I only gave it four stars because of the fact, this is not a book full of exercises, lessons and assignments for the actor seeking those things. I don't think a better book to wrap up their lives could have been written. Cole was hard, demanding unyielding, and sometimes who felt like hating him, but then he would remember his upbringing and it would all fall into place. Evangeline, a rich girl trying to break free from the teen idol status needs cole to protect her, she never imagines she would care for him, and have to suffer so much rejection from him. At the end though everything fell in to place and their love became stronger.

This book just like the rest of the series, was great. These Marines are very protective of the ones they love. It shows what a bond they have with one and another and what they can be with the women they love. However this is a little sad, since this the end of the series, but it was such a wonderful read. As a wife of a U.S. Marine veteran, I highly recommend this book and this series.

Quick read! Strong female & male characters!

The premise behind this series is that a group of men leave the military and start their own security business. What is shown as the series progresses is that each of the 4 men thought that they were responsible for the death of the 5th man. In this last book, they finally figured out they all felt guilty & get the issue resolved. Cole is from the wrong side of the tracks. He is rough, hard & demanding. It's his way or the highway so to speak. Evangeline is a rich teen idol who is being stalked and needs Cole to protect her.

Both characters are very strong and tough. Neither of them wants to fall for the other one and show any vulnerability. The plot was very believable and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
